NEWS RELEASE

Volunteers organize more than 25 pre-election events and rally demonstrations in Manitoba communities

More events to be announced before the provincial election

Winnipeg, MB August 16, 2019 -- Non-partisan advocacy group Disability Matters Vote (DMVote) and volunteers from across Manitoba have organized an impressive calendar of events in Winnipeg, Brandon, Selkirk, Steinbach, Portage, and numerous other communities in the province. The groundswell of volunteer activity and support for DMVote demonstrates the powerful influence of Manitobans who care about disability issues and who will turn out in large numbers to vote in this election.

Among the upcoming events are two debates on August 27: The Disability Matters Leaders Debate in Winnipeg at the Norwood Hotel, and the Brandon Candidates Debate at Rotary Villas.

At several pop-up voting simulation events, people are being supported to register to vote and experience what it will be like to vote on Sept. 10.

Prior to releasing the events calendar today, volunteers had already held over a dozen roadside rallies. Events are being held to raise public awareness around disability issues, to provide Manitobans with tools and information to make informed voting decisions, and to engage political candidates on the campaign’s priority issues.

More than 1200 people attended the campaign’s launch at Assiniboine Park in July, where leadership candidates and designates from all four political parties addressed the crowd.
